VII. Sacraments

  7.1 Life Sacraments
  Article 165-Matrimony
  Canon 2972
Matrimony is one of the thirteen (13) Society Sacraments. Matrimony is granted and administered when a man and a woman upon reaching majority choose and consent of their own free will to sanctify their union through a registered divine matrimonial covenant in accordance with these canons and associated approved liturgy.
  Canon 2973
The sacrament of Matrimony is only permitted to be granted and administered when both parties are the age of majority.
  Canon 2974
The sacrament of Matrimony is only permitted to be granted and administered when both parties openly agree before at least two witnesses to the divine matrimonial covenant free of duress, coercion, inducement or any corrupting influence.
  Canon 2975
The sacrament of Matrimony may only be performed once the lesser sacrament of Union has been performed, either at a previous announcement of Engagement, or as part of the first ceremony within the celebration of matrimony.
  Canon 2976
While the lesser sacrament of Union is available to any type of couple of men and women upon reaching majority, the superior sacrament of Matrimony is only permitted to be granted and administered to a couple representing a man and a woman.
  Canon 2977
Matrimonial consent is an act of the will by which a man and a woman mutually give and accept each other through an irrevocable covenant in order to establish matrimony.
  Canon 2978
A Matrimonial Covenant is registered into the Great Register and Public Record of One Heaven, also known as the Great Book of Life and is therefore given spiritual life as a Divine Trust that can never be dissolved until the end of existence.
  Canon 2979
A Union may be lawfully dissolved through Divorce, but no law in Heaven or on Earth may legitimately dissolve a Divine Trust formed through a Divine Matrimonial Covenant.
  Canon 2980
A man or woman may enter into several Unions throughout their life. However, in accordance with Pactum De Singularis Caelum and these canons, a man or woman may only enter into one and only one Matrimony Covenant their entire life.
  Canon 2981
A competent Civil Authority may conduct the sacrament of Union, never the sacrament of Matrimony. Matrimony may only be conducted by a minister ordained in accordance with these canons.
  Canon 2982
The false and inferior sacrament of Marriage is not permitted to be equated nor compared to Matrimony.
  Canon 2983
Matrimony possesses the favor of law; therefore, in a case of doubt, the validity of matrimony must be upheld until the contrary is proven.
  Canon 2984
A promise to matrimony does not give rise to an action to seek the celebration of matrimony.
  Canon 2985
Consummation and living together are conditions of valid Matrimony, not Union. Following the sacrament of Matrimony, consummation is presumed until the contrary is proven.
