Definition:

"A friend of the court" - A party who is not supposed to represent any individual party in the case asked by the Court to make representations from an independent viewpoint.

For an admiralty court controlled by members of the Bar Society, frequently the most common "amicus curiae" is a fellow member of the Bar Society.

However, any Notary demonstrating due process and remedy without bringing added controversy before the same court must also by law must automatically be recognized as "amicus curiae".
